How to feel incredible in your body, prevent burnout, and wake up excited to live your life

4 types of energy

Why 4 types of energy?

Rest doesn’t always feel restful..

You know those naps that only make you feel worse?

Or weekends when you finally allow yourself to “do nothing” but end up feeling bored, empty, and unmotivated?

Or the vacations that feel so amazing in the moment, but don’t do ANYTHING about the dread you feel on Monday mornings before work?

The things we do to rest don’t always match the energy we need to replenish.

Plus, rest is only a part of it. When your phone battery is low, you don’t just let it sit there, waiting to go back up. You plug it into the wall to recharge.

Resting is important, but recharging is even more so.

Unfortunately, in today’s society we decided that recharging activities are “unproductive.”

It’s easy to push off doing things you love, going out into nature, learning new hobbies, or asking yourself big, deep questions.

“One day, when I’m less busy…”

What we don’t realize is that those “unproductive,” “optional,” “maybe one day” activities are EXACTLY what recharges our internal batteries most effectively.

In other words, most people skip the vital actions that will actually make them feel good.

No wonder we all feel exhausted most of the time!

We simply don’t choose replenishment

But we have the capacity to feel SO GOOD in life!! We can feel incredible. Our bodies can feel amazing, our days can be fulfilling & meaningful, our lives can be full of excitement & adventure.

And no, not because of more money…

Because of more ENERGY.

4 TYpes of energy, expLained

Physical energy

Your body, muscle strength, immunity, metabolism, hormone balance (+ your environment)

High physical energy = waking up refreshed and ready to go, feeling great in your body, being active, rarely getting sick

Mental energy

Your brain’s capacity to think, problem solve, focus, learn, multitask, process the day’s events and sensory inputs

High mental energy = easy to focus and problem solve, easefully managing your time and priorities, feeling calmer in stressful times

EMOTIONAL energy

Your state of being, emotions, moods, emotional flexibility, nervous system state, motivation, creativity, self-expression, play

High emotional energy = feeling motivated, inspired, creative, feeling good about yourself, seeing your life as fun, exciting, and fulfilling

SPIRITUAL energy

Life meaning, true wishes and desires, sense of purpose and mission in life, connection to a higher force, self-worth, unconditional love

High spiritual energy = strong sense of purpose that helps you through low points, feeling like you belong in this world and have something meaningful to contribute, following your most authentic & fulfilling life path

The 4 types of energy govern everything in your life.

When you’re feeling down, tired, unmotivated, lost, or stuck—one or more of these is low.

Knowing which energy type is low helps you know exactly what to do to help yourself feel better.

So how do you replenish your 4 types of energy?

To recharge the 4 energy batteries, take care of the corresponding NEEDS.

Here are some of your basic needs by energy type:

Physical energy NEEDS

The foundation of all energy: proper nourishment, hydration, sleep, rest, hormone balance, movement

For physical energy needs, especially in times of stress, more is better: more time outside, more protein, more minerals, more hydration, more sleep, more rest.

Mental energy NEEDS

Anything that helps the brain and the nervous system—and lowers stress.

Many activities that restore physical energy help with mental energy, as well. But for mental energy, less is more: less distraction, less screen time, fewer tasks, fewer commitments.

EMOTIONAL energy NEEDS

The need for creativity, adventure, self-expression, play, socialization—and processing all of our emotions (positive, negative, and anything in-between)

With our emotions, we want to feel what’s there, allow it all without judgment, process without analyzing, and then refill with positive emotional, sensory, or social experiences.

SPIRITUAL energy NEEDS

Our deepest needs: need for love and belonging, sense of purpose in life, the need for meaning and for self-actualization

Taking care of these needs may require reevaluating your life, exploring your identity and potential, and redirecting when you feel like your life doesn’t align with your truth.

This goes beyond health

This is how you go through life. How you feel day-to-day, how you see yourself, how much you love your life and want to show up.

This is about having agency over your state of being, and your life direction. Feeling confident, unshakable, unbothered.

Easeful, vibrant, flowing.

It’s all energy.
